Applied NanoWorks, Inc. Plans 2009 Move to New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s Saratoga Technology + Energy Park® (STEP®)

Bob Callender, Vice President for Programs at the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, (NYSERDA), today joined with Eric Burnett, Applied NanoWorks (ANW) President and CEO, to announce ANW’s move to STEP in January.  The company presently has a staff of 10, and anticipates hiring an additional 40 new employees in the next three years, for a total of 50 full-time hires.

Applied NanoWorks is an advanced inorganic materials manufacturing and development company.  ANW has developed a patent pending inorganic materials platform, called the Molecular Control Process (MCP), proving to be the first major advancement in inorganic material science in 30 years.  MCP is a broad-based manufacturing platform that covers over 50 base elements.  It is cost-effective, scalable, and already has delivered over eight new patent-pending molecules, process and application patents.  Products derived from MCP are being used as a catalyst for a novel crude oil sweetening technology, as a “green” high performance flame retardant additive for plastics and coatings, and for photo-voltaic thin film applications.

Callender said “NYSERDA has been a strong supporter of Applied NanoWorks’ ongoing work with phosphors and its production scale-up efforts.  We enthusiastically welcome ANW’s plans to locate at 10 Hermes Road, STEP’s Business Center, in January. The company will bring a new energy-related dimension to STEP.”

While investigating promising process improvements in the core nano-oxide processes, ANW’s R&D team discovered the technology for its Molecule Control Platform, a far more powerful and highly flexible chemical manufacturing platform than its original nano-oxide materials and processes.  The company found ‘nano’ to be too big for real solutions, and moved its focus to the molecular level to produce game-changing flexible inorganics.

“NYSERDA has been a long-term partner to Applied NanoWorks and the energy related research and development community in New York State as a whole, and we are very excited to be expanding our relationship with the authority, said Burnett.  “NYSERDA’s STEP facility is ideal for our next level of growth because it provides the laboratory and manufacturing space and infrastructure necessary to commercialize our products.  NYSERDA’s understanding of the needs of high tech start-ups, combined with the

commitment to provide state-of-the-art facilities to support their growth here in New York State, is what makes NYSERDA an invaluable asset in New York State’s economic development activities.”

STEP is undergoing an extensive and exciting transformation into a vibrant center for energy research and technology production while approaching its ultimate goal of creating a resilient environment that affords employees in the buildings, a safe, comfortable, and enriching work experience.  Since its establishment in 2001, STEP has attracted numerous companies that strive for similar goals in clean energy, energy efficiency, and a friendly environment.
