| Solid State Lighting Workshop On May 1, 2008, Linc, The Lighting CultivatorTM, held a solid-state lighting (SSL) workshop at the Albany Marriott designed to promote SSL product funding, demonstration, and business opportunities in New York State. More than 60 people attended including lighting manufacturers, energy-efficiency program designers, evaluators and administrators, as well as governmental and nongovernmental entities interested in advancing SSL opportunities in the marketplace. The event was sponsored by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and the Center for Economic Growth. At the event, NYSERDA presented a SSL Program Opportunity Notice (PON #1207) and anticipates making multiple awards of up to $200,000 per project, with $1 million available in total. Examples of eligible projects include: energy-efficient LEDs, coatings, encapsulants, lenses, drivers, controls, fixtures, and integrated SSL systems; solar-powered LED lighting systems; LED exterior lighting systems designed to minimize energy use, light trespass and light pollution; LED dimming systems; and demand-response projects for peak-load management. Proposals are due May 28, 2008 by 5 pm EST. “I made valuable contacts at this event, and I am very excited to learn about all that New York State has to offer, including the technical and business services available through Linc,” said one event participant. Linc is a not-for-profit corporation created through NYSERDA funding. Located at the Saratoga Technology + Energy Park (STEP), Linc’s mission is to create a vibrant network of lighting businesses in New York State by bridging the worlds of research, technology transfer, and manufacturing.
