AMD unveils new server chip The Business Review (Albany) Advanced Micro Devices Inc. introduced its new server chip, the Quad-Core AMD Opteron, on Monday. The AMD chip is designed for "for the most demanding data centers," the Sunnyvale, Calif. company said. AMD (NYSE: AMD) said the Quad-Core AMD Opteron is energy efficient yet more powerful that its previous chips. "Today marks one of the great milestones in microprocessor achievement as AMD again raises expectations for industry-standard computing," said Hector Ruiz, AMD's chairman and chief executive officer, AMD. AMD has announced plans to build a $3.2 billion chip plant in Saratoga County. |
