Breaking News - January 17, 2006 In his 2006 Executive Budget, Governor George E. Pataki announced the creation of an Alternative Fuel Vehicle Research Laboratory to be located in the Saratoga Technology + Energy Park (STEP) in the Town of Malta. This $24 million state-of-the-art laboratory will be a collaborative project of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). This facility will conduct research and testing of new and improved fuels, batteries, and pollution-control devices, including plug-in hybrids, hydrogen vehicles, renewable fuels, emerging distributed generation, and thermally activated technologies. Governor Pataki also announced additional energy efficiency, transportation, and renewable energy initiatives.
