Grant Writing, Persuasive Proposals: Six Strategies for Success

Please join us for the first of four in our STEP Speaker Series. Joan Oliver’s career as a grant writer grew from experience at the NYS Dept. of Education, as Associate in Education Planning and Evaluation where she administered $8.9 million in federal K – 12 educational programs. In that position, she routinely reviewed and ranked proposals and budgets for grants programs statewide. That experience as a grant manager, in combination with graduate education in research, is the foundation of her grant writing experience. She crafted an award winning, nationally acknowledged service-learning program, served as a New York representative to the U.S. Department of Education, and authored over $12 million in grant funds. She holds a master’s degree in library and information science and trained with the Grantsmanship Center and the Foundation Center in advanced proposal development.
